In 2017 we saw the passing of the torch as Dr. Jones the executive secretary retired. Dr Jones was one of the founding members of the organization and he was instrumental in setting up the first convention and subsequently served as executive secretary for the past 40 years. He was instrumental in maintaining the organization in good and lean years.  The membership recognizes his life long contribution and will recognize him at the 2019 convention.

As Dr. Jones retired the organization took some time to update and consider its structure and direction for the future. Dr. Tonya Thames Taylor served as interim executive secretary for 2017 and coordinated the 2018 conference in Mississippi. Dr. Bertis English was selected as 2018 president.
